This sounds too good to be true. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think this is indeed legitimate.
Microsoft is running a promotion whereby upon purchase of an OEM version of Windows Vista Ultimate you get the following hardware items for free:
- Kingston 2GB Flash Drive
- Artec HDTV Tuner
- D-Link WiFi Pocket Router
- Epson PictureMate Pal
NewEgg.com also has a promotion page for this deal.
The value of the items wasn’t advertised, but I found the model numbers for 3 of the 4 products and did some searching. Here’s what I found:
- Kingston 2GB Flash Drive - $76.99
- Artec HDTV Tuner - $59.99
- D-Link WiFi Pocket Router - $46.99
- Epson PictureMate Pal - Couldn’t find the model number; an Epson PictureMate Pal printer on NewEgg (don’t know if it’s the same one) cost $133.99, so I think that’s a safe guess
The total price for these four items adds up to $317.96. And what how much is Vista Ultimate OEM from NewEgg? Yep, only $199.99.
Assuming you were able to resell these hardware items at the above prices, you would get Vista Ultimate for free and get $117.97 extra. Or you could keep one or two of the items and sell the rest to recoup the cost of Vista. Or you could just keep all of them.
All the same, totally cool.

I took a look at this promo, and it looks good, but not as good as I first thought. For example, you must verify your Windows Vista installation to receive rebates for the items mentioned. Therefore, you must buy the product, send for the rebate, and sell the product if you want to make money … you may make $150 - $200, but it will likely take 3 - 4 months.

Another way to get direct download links for Legal Windows Vista Ultimate Edition directly from Microsoft. Note that this is just the upgrade version, so the site says.

Hi Grant and the “someone” person,
The method mentioned in this post by which you can receive a “free” copy of Vista is a promotion run by Microsoft in which you receive the cost of Windows Vista Ultimate in free hardware. You must purchase Vista Ultimate to qualify for the hardware rebates. Consequently, there is no download link. And I’d advise you to stay away from the illegal downloads of Vista … many of them are likely malware-ridden.

All you need to do once you have an upgrade CS/DVD or even the clean copy, you really dont need to do all the booting up with the cd then install. The best thing you can do, like me, is go to this page so you dual-boot XP and Vista, I have an Ultimate version thanks to PARADOX Team. http://apcmag.com/5023/dual_booting_xp_with_vista.
Once you follow their directions, go to the keygen page, so you don’t HAVE to activate.

All it does is activate it from within itself ;). Have Fun.
