According to the CNN article “Texans flee colossal Rita,” residents in Texas are preparing to evacuate from the third most intense storm in history. Thank goodness this one won’t be aiming for the next state to the east!

How about your family in Houston, John? Are they ok?

They’re likely going to have to evacuate. If so, they’re planning to go to Austin until it’s OK to return to Houston.

Some friends of ours who live in Houston have been told to evacuate their house. It’s a very sad business.
Austin, by the way, looks awfully close to Houston as it is… are you sure that that’s a good place to evacuate to?

I think the main reason they’re planning to evacuate to Austin is because my cousin lives there, so they’ll be able to stay with her. Perhaps they’ll be going somewhere else due to the recent category upgrades. But if not, hopefully the storm will lose some of its strength after first hitting land…
