New Theme!

July 26, 2007

As visitors to this blog may have noticed, I have a new WordPress theme! I mentioned back in February that I needed a WordPress theme to replace Kubrick, and was planning to develop a theme on my own.

Well, I didn’t have the time to devote to that sort of project. So I looked. And I searched. And I hunted for a WordPress theme I liked. Then one day, I began yet another theme-searching session, and one of the first themes I stumbled on was Integral.

Ah-ha! I liked it! So I installed it, changed some colors around, and over the course of a couple weeks I tweaked and modified it. And now I’m about done!

To all RSS-only readers: come on over and check it out! ;-)

I Need a New WordPress Theme

February 9, 2007

Yep, I’ve decided that Kubrick just won’t cut it. The reason is that it isn’t “brandable.” So many sites have Kubrick that you can’t really tell them apart if you just look at the layout.

The reason I stuck with Kubrick in the first place was that I couldn’t find another theme I really liked. So I think what I’m going to do is design a new theme from scratch.

Of course, this will take a while, so keep an eye out for it in a couple of months.

About This Time Last Year…

October 31, 2006

Long-time readers will probably recall the post that I wrote on October 31, 2005 titled Uninvited Trick-or-Treaters concerning something that happened about 365 days and 10 minutes ago. This evening I’ve been keeping an eye out sequel material (The Return of the Uninvited Trick-or-Treaters!), but nothing so far yet. :-)

When I wrote that post last year it was suggested to me that I “put it to tape,” that is, make a podcast about it. Hmm… I might just do that. I’ll see if I have time to do it later tonight.

My First Post from Office 2007

August 1, 2006

Yep, I did it - I downloaded the Office 2007 beta before it becomes a paid download tomorrow (Wednesday). And is it cool or what! So far I’ve only tested Word 2007 (which I’m using to write this post), and just that is enough to get me excited. Can’t wait to test out the rest!

The Top 5 Posts

July 19, 2006

One thing I don’t really like about blogs is that the old content gets shoved out of view. This is okay if the old content is time-sensitive, but otherwise, that isn’t always desirable.

Because quite a few (but not all) of my posts are NOT time-sensitive, I’ve decided to start posting some lists of past posts.

So, as a little something for this blog’s “first birthday,” here is the list of the Top 5 most popular posts (based on how many visits the posts have received) in this blog’s first year of existence. Enjoy! :-)

  1. Lifecycle of Innovation
    (posted July 25th, 2005)
  2. Visual Studio 2005 Express: Free Forever
    (posted May 13th, 2006)
  3. The Mystery of the Orange Light, Part 1
    (posted October 26th, 2005)
  4. The Mystery of the Orange Light, Part 2
    (posted November 11th, 2005)
  5. Vista Beta 2 Access Not Shut Off After All?
    (posted July 8th, 2006)

What I find amazing is that despite the fact that the “Vista Beta 2 Access Not Shut Off After All?” post is only about 10 days old, it has still managed to skyrocket into the top 5 posts, on par with the popular Mystery of the Orange Light posts. (Though note that because this list is list three days late, due to the fact that I was out of town recently, and therefore because this list takes into account visits from those three days, it’s possible that three days ago the post wouldn’t have made the top 5.)

I was also puzzled as to why the “Lifecycle of Innovation” post was getting so many visits. I finally figured out that apparantly the post ranks high in image search results for “innovation.” When I posted that post, I had no idea how popular it would turn out to be.

Well, with blogging, you never know…
