John Lamansky is a Catholic homeschooled teenager who blogs from Iowa. John’s interests are many and varied and include writing, science fiction, media, government, and, of course, technology.
John’s first experience with computers came at around age 5 when he began playing with his family’s Windows 95 computer. He enjoyed using Paint and WordPad in particular.
At 8 years old, John was making simple websites with Microsoft® Word 2000 running on Windows 98 SE. By the time he was 9 years old, he had started an email newsletter that he sent out to family and friends.
At age 10, he began producing animated “movies” made using Microsoft PowerPoint®. He also developed an interest in making his own computer programs; so he borrowed his mom’s college programming textbook, found an online compiler, and was soon developing in BASIC.
He continued accumulating programming know-how, and at age 12 he learned his tenth programming language: Visual Basic .NET. Also at age 12 he placed first in the world in a science fiction writing contest for 4th- through 6th-graders.
At age 14, John entered the world of online blogging, starting his personal blog at JohnLamansky.com. When he was 15, he started a podcast at CatholicGeek.com, and learned XAML, his twentieth programming language. By age 16, John had produced his first full-length movie.
John currently traverses cyberspace with a Dell Dimension 8400 computer running Windows XP Professional and Mozilla Firefox. Between school and other responsibilities, he continues learning more of what there is to know about technology, media, his Catholic faith, and his other interests.

Awesome! You’re my age at least (I’m 18) and you were homeschooled. I’m really liking your blog, we seem to share a common interest – infact I share a similar story.
I’m not much for programming, although I am going to college for it now. However, since the age of three I have always been on a computer. It’s become one of many things in life that I enjoy the most (others being level design, AutoCAD, networking, managing servers, and video games).
You really are a interesting guy John! We should chat sometime, if you want. =]
God Bless!

Hi John:
I read about your podcast on Disciples with Microphones and thought you might be interested in interviewing authors.
This season I’m working with:
• James Martin, S.J., a Jesuit priest and associate editor of America magazine.
His latest book, A Jesuit Off-Broadway (Loyola Press), chronicles Martin’s role behind
the scenes of Stephen Adly Guirgis’ new play The Last Days of Judas Iscariot.
• Bert Ghezzi, p.h. D., a popular author and speaker with seventeen books to his credit.
His latest, The Heart of a Saint (The Word Among Us Press), shows how anyone can grow
closer to God, profiling diverse personalities who had in common a heart set on loving
God above all.
• Tom Grace, a bestselling fiction writer who’s very well-informed about the persecution of
the church in China. His latest novel is The Secret Cardinal (Vanguard Press), a thriller
set in China’s underground church.
• Eddie Ensley, a deacon, pastoral counselor, retreat leader and author. His new book is
Prayer That Relieves Stress and Worry (Contemplative Press), a practical resource for anyone coping with stress, illness, or loss. Eddie can also share how prayer has helped him cope with a physical disability and some trying times.
Please let me know if you would like review copies and/or interviews.
Thanks for your time and consideration,
Ingrid
